Hydrogen Embrittlement of Steels in High Pressure H2 Gas and Acidified H2S-saturated Aqueous Brine Solution

چکیده

Abstract Microbiological methanation is planned in an underground natural gas reservoir. For this purpose, hydrogen stored, which can lead to embrittlement of steels. To simulate these field conditions, autoclave tests were performed clarify the amount absorbed and test whether content leads failure Constant load immersion with subsequent analyses performed. Tests under constant have shown that no cracks occur due pressures up 100 bar temperatures at 25 °C 80 °C. In carbon steels absorb a maximum 0.54 ppm hydrogen, well below limit. Austenitic stainless much more but also higher resistance embrittlement. H 2 S saturated solutions, uptake ten times compared gas, has caused fractures several (high strength steels, Super 13Cr, Duplex steel 2205).

Prevention of Hydrogen Embrittlement in Steels

The essential facts about the nature of the hydrogen embrittlement of steels have now been known for 140 years. It is diffusible hydrogen that is harmful to the toughness of iron. It follows, therefore, that the harmful influence of diffusible hydrogen can be mitigated by preventing its entry into steel or by rendering it immobile once it penetrates the material. This review deals with the meth...

Characteristics of Hydrogen Embrittlement, Stress Corrosion Cracking and Tempered Martensite Embrittlement in High-strength Steels

Characteristics of tempered martensite embrittlement (TME), hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in high-strength steels are reviewed. Often, it is important to determine unambiguously by which of these mechanisms failure occurred, in order to suggest the right actions to prevent failure recurrence. To this aim, samples made of high-strength AISI 4340 alloy steel wer...

A Comparison of Hydrogen Embrittlement and Stress Corrosion Cracking in High Strength Steels

The purpose of this study was to compare the known behavior of hydrogen embrittled high-strength steel to the characteristics of environmentallyinduced stress corrosion failure where hydrogen is continuously generated at the specimen surface. The incubation time for the initiation of slow crack growth was accelerated by prestressing for a fixed time below the lower critical limit. These results...

Effect of Chromium on Corrosion Behavior of P110 Steels in CO2-H2S Environment with High Pressure and High Temperature

The novel Cr-containing low alloy steels have exhibited good corrosion resistance in CO₂ environment, mainly owing to the formation of Cr-enriched corrosion film. In order to evaluate whether it is applicable to the CO₂ and H₂S coexistence conditions, the corrosion behavior of low-chromium steels in CO₂-H₂S environment with high pressure and high temperature was investigated using weight loss m...
